MIDLAND, Texas — At 7:52 a.m. on Friday, July 12, Midland Police responded to an accident in the 8700 block of State Highway 191, according to a press release from the City of Midland.
The release further stated that emergency personnel removed the driver from a 2016 Chevy Cruz, who was later identified as 73-year-old Tommy Earl Palmer.
Emergency personnel attempted life saving measures at the scene.
Palmer was pronounced dead after being transported to Midland Memorial Hospital.
Initial investigation by the Midland Police Traffic unit revealed that Palmer suddenly stopped in the westbound lane of State Highway 191. Witnesses reported that the driver of a Peterbilt cement truck collided with the rear of Palmer’s Chevy Cruz at a high speed.
The investigation remains ongoing.
