One dead after Stanton structure fire

The cause of the fire and the identity of the deceased are still under investigation.

STANTON, Texas — A structure fire in Stanton has left one person dead.

According to a press release, the fire happened on Jan. 29 at about 12:30 p.m. Martin County Volunteer Fire Department and the Stanton Police Department were sent to the fire at the 900 block of E. Mason Street.

After the fire was extinguished, the remains of a person were found in the structure. The person has not yet been identified pending further investigation and an autopsy report.

The Stanton Police Department brought in fire Investigators from the Big Spring Fire Department to assist with the fire investigation.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
