MIDLAND, Texas — One person is dead following a two-vehicle accident on Friday, Nov. 1, near Loop 250 in Midland County, according to Sergeant Steven Blanco with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
DPS responded to the scene along Loop 250, around 2 p.m. The vehicles involved were a 2018 Ford F-150 and a 2024 Ford F-350 with a trailer.
According to Blanco, the 2024 Ford F-350, driven by 45-year-old Troy Alan Gilbert, was traveling westbound on Loop 250 when the right-side tire broke off of the trailer. The tire then traveled across the westbound lanes and over the cable barrier onto the opposite side of the roadway striking the windshield of the 2018 Ford F-250, driven by 45-year-old Steven Michael Basden, traveling eastbound.
This caused Basden to lose control of the vehicle, hitting the cable barrier in the median.
Basden was transported to Midland Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead the following day, according to Blanco.
The report says both individuals were wearing their seatbelts.
The incident remains under investigation with no further information available.
