MIDLAND, Texas — Editor's Note: This article is updated with information received from City of Midland's communications Stewart Doreen.
One woman has died after a crash involving a Polaris 1000 ATV four-wheeler just south of the 6600 block of Shawnee, on a private easement, according to a news release from Stewart Doreen with the City of Midland.
At 11:47 p.m. on Tuesday, the Midland Police Department and Midland Fire Department responded to an ATV accident that killed a Weatherford woman.
According to Doreen, "the driver and rear passenger were traveling westbound when they collided with a petroleum pipeline marker."
Reports also say, "neither occupant was wearing a helmet" and it remains undetermined who was operating the ATV."
One occupant, Sameul Richard Merril, 31, was taken to a nearby hospital to treat his injuries.
The other, Emelda Moreno, 42, was found 100 feet west of the impact point. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Doreen, "the investigation is ongoing."
