OPD provides update on fatal motorcycle crash on Wednesday

32-year-old Manuel Luera was pronounced dead at the scene after hitting a truck exiting a private drive.

ODESSA, Texas — The Odessa Police Department has provided an update on the fatal motorcycle crash they were investigating Wednesday.

According to the City of Odessa's Facebook page, at about 4 p.m. Wednesday, OPD responded to 8th St. and Tower Dr. in reference to a motorcycle crash.

Upon investigation, OPD found out that a truck driven by 86-year-old Robert Powell exited from a private drive in the 2200 block of E. 8th St. Powell then tried to drive north onto Tower Dr.

32-year-old Manuel Luera was driving his gray Ducati motorcycle on 8th St., where he then hit the truck. 

Luera was pronounced dead at the scene. Next of kin have been notified.

According to the post, the preliminary investigation determined that speed was a contributing factor.
