BIG SPRING, TX (KWES) - Traffic was backed up in Big Spring following an accident involving at least two big rigs on Interstate 20.
Today, we're told authorities are working to clean up left over debris that was spread out through the interstate, around exit 182.
A total of three cars were involved, Big Spring police believes weather was a factor in the accident.
According to press release, a black Nissan Frontier pickup had been traveling eastbound on I-20 when the driver lost control and rolled coming to a rest in the median of the east and westbound lanes.
Officers and deputies were on scene and working the accident when a 2002 white truck tractor pulling a trailer was traveling eastbound at the 181 MM when a car had slowed in front of the truck tractor.
We're told, additional Big Spring Police Department Officers responded to the scene along with Howard County Sheriff's Deputies, Big Spring Fire Department, Big Spring Emergency Medical Service and Department of Public Safety Troopers to provide assistance.
A few moments later a 2016 Gold Kenworth truck tractor pulling a trailer was traveling westbound and observed the accident at the 182 mile marker, at which time the 2016 gold tractor slowed to avoid the accident scene.
A 2007 white Nissan Maxima was traveling behind the gold tractor and trailer, also took evasive actions and lost control of the Maxima and collided into the bumper of the trailer with the front of the passenger car.
One of the people involved, identified as John Jacob Henry, died at the scene.
The driver of the eastbound 2002 white Freightliner Tractor Trailer was given a citation for unsafe speed. The driver of the 2007 white Nissan Maxima was cited for failure to control speed.
Investigation has been turned over to the Big Spring Police Department Criminal Investigations Division.
