The President of the Professional Fire Fighters Association Midland talks updates to Midland firefighter pension

A two percent increase to the firefighter pension was proposed by Midland Mayor Lori Blong and passed at the city council meeting Tuesday.

MIDLAND, Texas — There were more updates to the Midland firefighter pension fund Tuesday as talks went on between the City and Midland firemen.

A two percent fund increase was proposed by Midland Mayor Lori Blong and passed at the city council meeting Tuesday.

It will raise Midland's employer contribution rate from 22.2% to 24.2%.

Underfunded for years, the City has been stepping up their efforts to reverse that, and the firefighters are hoping for better things.

"We've been working with the City and this counsel and this city administration over the past year, and they have decided to bring a two percent increase which will greatly help reduce the deficit," Professional Fire Fighters Association Midland President Eric Stewart said. "There are some things needed in the future and we are constantly in discussion about that. But we're seeing the good things happening in the future and we can finally get it to where it needs to be."

The City of Midland plans on continuing these talks and we will keep you updated on this story when new updates are available.
