Salvation Army helps NewsWest 9 roll out barrels for upcoming Toy Drive

In November, you'll find the Toy Drive barrels at businesses all over the Permian Basin.

MIDLAND, Texas — The Salvation Army was rolling out big red barrels for the NewsWest 9's Salvation Army Toy Drive.

On Wednesday, NewsWest 9 helped load the barrels into the Salvation Army truck.

In November you'll find them at businesses all over the Permian Basin.

NewsWest 9 is hoping that you will fill them up with toys to put under the Christmas tree for a less fortunate child, who wouldn't get a gift without your help.

NewsWest 9 talked to the Salvation Army about families needs in 2023 and how they need toys for all ages.

"The amount of people that came in to sign up for our Angel Tree Program has once again been higher than the previous year, which means the past four years there has been more children, parents and families in need of Christmas assistance," Captain Robert Coriston said. "So we need as much help as possible."

Any toy for any age helps.

"We actually have some that will be born...they're not born yet, but they will be by Christmas time," Captain Stephanie Vincent said. "So really any toy for any age is greatly appreciated as you get into the older ages."

The Toy Drive starts on Nov. 6. All you got to do is just place a new unwrapped toy into any red barrel with the NewsWest 9 Salvation Army sticker on it.

The toys will be given to local kids by the Salvation Army.
