ODESSA, Texas — Meals on Wheels of Odessa along with H-E-B provided seniors with plenty of sauce Wednesday.
At the inaugural 'Sauces for Seniors' event, each Meals on Wheels client received a bottle of ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise, BBQ sauce and pancake syrup as well as a salt and pepper shaker set, all donated by H-E-B.
Normally, Meals on Wheels will deliver meals but without condiments, now with the help from H-E-B, they can deliver those sauces.
"Our daily job is to distribute a meal," Craig Stoker, Meals on Wheels Executive Director said. "That's one very small part of what we do. I think the most important thing we do is a wellness check to make sure our clients are safe, to ensure we have what they need. We've become their family, so we interact with these folks who may not have family close or anyone in their lives. So when our volunteers visit, we're it. [...] I mean, how far does ketchup go to make a hamburger excellent? So we're so happy to be able to do this and partner with HEB to provide condiments to our clients."
In total 550 packages were delivered to the clients.
