Scientist shows off science experiments at Permian High School

ODESSA, TX (KWES) - A special guest stopped by Permian High School for a science demonstration Monday afternoon.

Hailing from the University of Texas, Dr. Kate Bieberdorf performed a series of exciting chemistry experiments in the school's auditorium.

She says her goal is to show how cool chemistry can be.

"I'm trying to tell them that chemistry is awesome, and you don't have to be a dork or a nerd to like science, you can just be a normal boy or a girl who likes to play with fire," says Dr. Bieberdorf.

Dr. Bieberdorf was invited to the high school by Jason Osborne, ECISD's Chief innovation Officer.

"It's giving these kids the opportunities to be exposed and give them something to strive for, and if they don't know that or know something exists, so they know to pursue that," says Osborne.

The University of Texas professor tells us the passion for shows comes from a personal sentiment.
