SEMINOLE, Texas — UPDATE: The majority of the fire has now been extinguished and the firefighters at the site are currently working to put out remaining hot spots.
Over 10 units from the Andrews County Volunteer Fire Department, Seminole Fire Department, and Seagraves Fire Department were on hand to help according to the Andrews Volunteer Fire Department.
No structures or livestock were ever in immediate danger, but the strong gusts of wind and rough terrain made it difficult for firefighters to control the blaze.
Original story follows:
The Seminole Fire Department is currently responding to a large grass fire along Highway 1788 in Gaines County, south of town.
Anyone nearby is advised to avoid the area, as today's high winds create favorable conditions for fire spread.
This is a developing story, we will update this page with more information as it becomes available.
