New facility for Senior Life Midland to further help aging population

The non-profit has more space to provide their programs and services. Their new building aims to fulfill the needs of a growing senior population in the Tall City.

MIDLAND, Texas — Midland is experiencing plenty of growth, and while many young families are calling the Tall City home, the aging population is also growing.

Senior Life Midland is a non-profit that helps supports the needs of that group, and the organization recently opened a new facility.

A crowning moment for both their 50-year history and the seniors they serve.

“This new facility is about 30,000 square feet," said Tracy Renton, Director of Development and Marketing at Senior Life Midland. "The plan was that this building would meet the current needs, but also allow us to grow and expand programming for the future needs of seniors in Midland.”

Renton says some of the new spaces will be used for education and training.

“We’re going to be able to make sure that not only does the community meet the needs of our seniors, but our seniors have the opportunity to grow and expand with the community as well," Renton said.

Senior Life Midland offers many programs and services for those active and homebound, with Meals on Wheels the largest to help with food insecurity. Inflation and the high cost of living make it an increasing need.

“We knew that an expansion of services such as our share a meal program, weekend meals, different things like that – but we had to have the ability to collect that inventory and house a larger amount of inventory to fulfill those needs," Renton said.

That added inventory is now a reality, with a much larger kitchen allowing for more efficiency.

The new facility also includes space for volunteers, and a special feature -- art of a tree with the names of the donors on it.

“The donors that line this tree were very instrumental," Renton said. "Many of them are foundations, businesses and individuals, and if it weren’t for their generosity we wouldn’t have this beautiful new building. So, we are so grateful and we are happy to honor them."

Philanthropy on display for the benefit of Midlanders.

“There’s a sense of comfort to all generations knowing that a facility like this does exist, and that it’s growing in working effectively and efficiently to make sure that all the needs of seniors – past, present and future – are being taken care of," Renton said.
