ODESSA, Texas — When Brysa Hinojosa graduated from Skillpoint Alliance's pre-apprentice electrical program in October 2023, she came out of it with a plan.
She planned to start up her own company.
It was the best way to honor her family, who were the key in motivating her throughout her life.
“My family has always been entrepreneurs themselves whether it's little small businesses like a carwash or anything like that," said Hinojosa. "So, growing up I figured that that's something that I have experience in watching.”
Fast forward to the time at Skillpoint Alliance Permian Basin, the school that she chose to help further her dream of becoming an entrepreneur and helping others less fortunate than her.
It was during her classes that she and her partner initially got the idea to start up their own company.
“My partner and I were actually talking about starting a business for affordable housing," said Hinojosa. "We saw that they offered free courses, and we decided to take it because it was a step closer to doing the business that we wanted to do.”
Skillpoint Alliance offers training programs for careers in electrical, plumbing and HVAC trades. It offered the hands-on experience Hinojosa and her partner needed.
“Skillpoint Alliance has shown us the materials that we need. They also gave us the opportunity to give us hands-on experience as electricians," said Hinojosa. "While we were in that field, we saw a need, and from that need we saw an opportunity to build our company.”
After their graduation, Hinojosa and her partner made their dream a reality and created Foreman’s Electrical Supply, which provides 24-hour delivery service for contractors all across West Texas
The biggest supporters of Hinojosa and her partner was her family who stuck by her side and provided for her throughout her life.
“My family really supported me. My grandparents decided to invest in it, they really thought that this is going to be something big," said Hinojosa. "My parents as well, they supported me and anything that I needed, whether it was marketing or just helping me out in any kind of way.”
She is also hoping to pay it forward for all the help her family has provided her and for everything they have done for her.
“My biggest motivation right now is being able to be financially stable, not for myself but for my family as well," said Hinojosa. "I would love to have people working for me so I'm able to help my family and always have that kind of opportunity.”
Hinojosa is also hoping that she can grow the company to the point where she can also give back to the community and maybe even make some donations to the local high schools.
