MIDLAND, Texas — Spectrum of Solutions, formerly known as MARC, Inc., has been around for 65 years in Midland serving the West Texas community. The non-profit organization helps empower the lives of those living with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
They recently opened up new facilities that will have several benefits to help improve the services that they provide. Those facilities include more space for employees and the clients that they serve. Spectrum of Solutions continues to work to meet the need of many people in the Permian Basin.
The Anwar Family Inspiration Center is not just a new building.
“It helps our clients, it helps our families and just helps the community," said Kayla Minchew, executive director for Spectrum of Solutions.
The center is a place where lives are empowered.
“We provide residential services for adults in two different programs through Medicaid waiver programs, so we have 15 group homes in our community," Minchew said. "We also provide day services for our individuals that are adults that don’t go to work, and then we have a children’s therapy center where we provide a variety of therapy services for children with autism and developmental disabilities.”
Minchew said the added space has made a big difference.
“It has helped us to better improve our services because we have better communication, better technology, we’re able to do better training and just really has helped improve staff morale," Minchew said.
“Inspiration Park” was also renovated for clients to enjoy.
Spectrum of Solutions currently supports a little over 200 people, but more need help.
“There’s a waitlist for services both for the children and the adults, and so it’s really important that we’re here to provide those services," Minchew said.
These new additions look to shorten that list.
“Our case management has improved and our staffing has improved because of the new building and the new facilities, and so we do hope to open up our services to more individuals who’ve been waiting for services," Minchew said.
On the new building, the portrait-style photos of Spectrum of Solutions clients displays one thing that stands out.
“We love our clients, right!?" Minchew said. "That’s why we’re here, and it’s so cool to walk out of your office and see those smiling faces and remember ‘this is why we’re here.’”
A new Day Use Building was also constructed to serve the specialized needs of those with severe autism or other profound disabilities. Board and Committee Member with Spectrum of Solutions Eddie James added that they know more work is still needed moving forward. The non-profit organization will be hosting events throughout the year where the community can get involved and support their efforts.
