BURNET, Texas (AP) - A Central Texas man has been convicted of capital murder of trying to pay off a man to kill his stepmother in a plot to sell her lucrative pecan farm.
Jurors on Tuesday convicted Bruce Harkey of capital murder for a 2012 plot in the deaths of 85-year-old Bonnie Harkey and her housekeeper, Karen Johnson.
The Austin American-Statesman reports that Harkey faces an automatic life sentence without parole.
Authorities say Harkey had a deal to sell his stepmother's pecan ranch in San Saba County for more than $570,000, but couldn't agree with Johnson on how much to give Bonnie Harkey.
