DPS: Car failed to yield right of way to Seminole ISD bus carrying 25 students

Texas DPS said in an updated press release that a 65-year-old man died in the crash. Next of kin has not been notified.

GAINES COUNTY, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety has provided an updated release on a fatal crash that involved a Seminole Independent School District bus and a passenger car.

The crash happened around 9 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 15 in Gaines County. 

According to a release, a Seminole ISD bus was going northbound on US-385 in the outside lane.

A 65-year-old man, driving a 2005 GMC Yukon, was going eastbound on CR-320 and turned left onto US-385.

The 65-year-old failed to yield the right of way and was struck by the bus. The collision caused the Yukon to roll over into the barrow ditch. The bus remained upright facing northbound on US-385 on the shoulder.

According to DPS, the bus was returning to Seminole from a school athletic event and had 25 Seminole High School students on board. It was reported that no students or faculty were injured in the crash.

The 65-year-old man died at the scene. Preliminary information also revealed he was not wearing a seatbelt. Next of kin has not been notified.
