Texas DPS: One dead after crash on State Highway 115

The fatal car crash happened in Ward County. A 30-year-old man from New Mexico died.

WARD COUNTY, Texas — One person is dead following a two-vehicle accident on Sunday, Oct. 20, near SH 115 in Ward County, according to Sergeant Steven Blanco with the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

DPS responded to the scene along SH 115, mile marker 389, at 3:20 a.m. The vehicles involved included a 2009 Freightliner truck with a trailer and a 2017 Jeep Wrangler. 

According to Blanco, the Jeep Wrangler, driven by 30-year-old Christian Reyes, was going southbound on SH 115. The Freightliner truck, driven by 36-year-old Aldo Jesus Corrales Orduno, was also facing southbound on the improved shoulder of the road. Orduno was attempting to make a U-turn right in front of Reyes, causing the immediate collision.  

Reyes was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Blanco. He also reported that Reyes was not wearing a seatbelt. 

Orduno was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt. 

The incident remains under investigation with no further information available.
