MIDLAND, Texas — The Texas Tech football team will play its annual Spring Game in Midland in 2024, the school announced Friday afternoon.
This contest is slated for April 20, 2024 with a 1 p.m. kickoff. Television and fan information will be announced at a later time.
The location was changed because of ongoing construction at Jones AT&T Stadium.
The move marks the first time since 2019 that the Red Raiders have played in the Permian Basin. This program used to host either a spring scrimmage or its actual Spring Game during the seven-year stretch from 2013-2019.
"This has been a goal of ours since I accepted the job here at Texas Tech," Head Coach Joey McGuire said of the Red Raiders' return to Midland. "The Permian Basin is such a vital area for us, not only from a recruiting perspective but also due to the large alumni base that is so dedicated to this university. We look forward to bringing out team back to Midland for I'm sure will be a memorable experience."
Texas Tech is set to start its spring schedule March 19 with three practices per week.
