DELL CITY, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety Aircraft Operations Division rescued a family hiking in Guadalupe Mountains National Park, according to the Texas DPS website.
The article outlined that on Aug. 20, around 4:15 p.m., Guadalupe Mountains National Park Rangers notified the Texas DPS Aircraft Operations Division about a distressed family of hikers on the side of Guadalupe Peak. The family included three people: a 23-year-old male, a 23-year-old female and a three-month-old infant.
It was stated that the family started the hike sometime around mid-morning. At 3:00 p.m., after hiking nine miles, the family ran out of water and started to experience signs of dehydration as well as heat exhaustion.
DPS AOD dispatched a Pilatus PC-12 airplane to locate the family from the air, with the crew quickly being able to locate the family from the side of the mountain. An Airbus H-125 helicopter was then further dispatched to assist in the rescue with a Tactical Flight Officer deploying from the helicopter to perform a medical assessment on each family member, who determined a hoist rescue operation was the best option for their safety.
All three family members were then hoisted into the helicopter and transported down the mountain to a ground rescue team for further medical assistance.
