Texas A&M Task Force 1 personnel headed to Ruidoso to fight wildfires, Gov. Abbott announces

"Texas is proud to lend our neighbors a helping hand," said Texas Governor Greg Abbott in a press release.
The governor has deployed the National Guard to the area in response to the Ruidoso fires that has damaged more than 500 structures and consumed nearly 20,000 acres.

TEXAS, USA — Texas Governor Greg Abbott is directing the Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) to deploy Texas A&M Task Force 1 personnel to the Ruidoso area to fight the wildfires, according to Governor Abbott's Press Office.

The task force will help in the wildfire search and rescue support due to the Federal Emergency Management Agency's request.

This comes after Governor Abbott deployed Texas emergency management resources to the Ruidoso area.

"Texas is proud to lend our neighbors a helping hand," Governor Abbott said in a press release. "As we continue to support New Mexico's response, I directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to deploy Texas A&M Task Force 1 personnel to New Mexico to assist in wildfire search and rescue efforts. Texas stands ready to answer the call for help when disaster strikes — whether it's here in the Lone Star State or for our neighbors across the country.”
