REEVES COUNTY, Texas — Two people have died and one is in critical condition after a crash in Reeves County Thursday night, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

According to DPS' preliminary report, 42-year-old Laura Archuleta, driving a Ford F-150, was going northbound on SH 17, attempting to pass by a truck tractor and trailer. Archuleta failed to pass to the left safely, which led her into oncoming traffic in the southbound lane.

Twenty-two-year-old Juan Lopez, driving a GMC Sierra with a passenger, 40-year-old Luis Zamora, was going southbound on SH 17 and was struck head-on by Archuleta.

Archuleta was seriously injured and was flown to UMC in Lubbock. Both Lopez and Zamora were pronounced dead at the scene. Zamora was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing and no further details are provided at this time.
