Two Kermit ISD students die in crash on Easter Sunday

18-year-old Noel Rodriguez and Andrea Burkhalter were pronounced dead at the scene of a Winkler County crash.

WINKLER COUNTY, Texas — Two Kermit ISD students died in a two-vehicle crash on Easter Sunday at 1:07 p.m. in Winkler County at the intersection of SH 18 and FM 874, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety on Tuesday. 

According to a DPS preliminary report, 47-year-old Eddie Hall, driving a 2015 Mack Truck with trailer, was going westbound on FM 874. 18-year-old Kermit ISD student Noel Rodriguez, driving a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado, was going northbound on SH 18, approaching the intersection with FM 874.

Hall disregarded the stop sign and entered the intersection in front of the Silverado. At that time, the Silverado struck the Mack Truck, killing Rodriguez and a passenger in his vehicle, 18-year-old Kermit ISD student Andrea Burkhalter.

According to DPS, Hall was taken to Winkler County Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

Kermit ISD posted the following to their Facebook page in reference to the crash.

Our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those we lost in yesterday's tragic accident. Our hearts go out to you.

DPS is still investigating the crash and no further information is available at this time.
