ODESSA, Texas — Lt. Elbis Nicolas and FF Clayton King, two members of Odessa Fire Rescue, traveled to California this morning, July 30, to aid in the fight against wildfires in the northern region of the state. They will join forces with firefighters from San Angelo and Travis County, according to a post on the City of Odessa Facebook page.

The post further outlined that more than 100 firefighters from Texas, along with emergency management personnel, 25 fire engines, command vehicles, and additional equipment, are on their way to California to assist with the ongoing wildfire response.

On Sunday, Gov. Abbott’s office announced that he instructed the Texas Division of Emergency Management and the Texas A&M Forest Service to deploy resources after receiving a request from CAL FIRE through the California Office of Emergency Services.

It was also added that as of Monday, July 29, the Park Fire had burned more than 400,000 acres, an area larger than Los Angeles, and has affected over 562 square miles in inland Northern California.
