BIG SPRING, Texas — A structure fire took the lives of two Big Spring residents, according to Big Spring Fire Marshal Dan Hendrickson.
Hendrickson said the Big Spring Fire Department (BSFD) received "an alarm" for a structure fire within city limits on Wednesday around 2:30 a.m.
The incident occurred in the 1400 block of Park Street. When the crew arrived, they found a fire coming from the rear of a single-story residence.
According to Hendrickson, two people inside the home, 41-year-old Daniella Sarmiento and 37-year-old Chris Salazar, were taken to the Scenic Mountain Medical Center where they passed away due to their injuries from the fire.
BSFD deployed multiple fire trucks on scene. The fire scene was cleared by 8 a.m.
Hendrickson said the cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, caused by an electrical heating device.
The home was reported to have "no working smoke detectors at the time of the fire."
