ECTOR COUNTY, Texas — Following the resignation of Ector County Utility District President Tommy Ervin, NewsWest 9 is learning what next steps are being taken to replace him.
In October, District Attorney Dusty Gallivan sent a letter to Ervin asking him to step down for having been convicted of a crime in the past.
Wednesday was Ervin's last day as president and he told NewsWest 9 what his plans are moving forward.
"I have grandkids, I have two great grandkids, spend more time with them and looking for an alternative water source for West Odessa," Ervin said. "And this water source would be big enough to take care of a whole bunch of the City of Odessa because the water supply coming [to] the City of Odessa comes from lakes and they're dropping fast. So when the City of Odessa goes on to restrictions, then the City of Odessa can look for an alternative water source and hopefully I can help with that also."
During Wednesday's meeting, ECUD Board Members talked about what their plan is for filling in a board of directors seat.
"[What] we decided to do [is] we will be tabled the applications that we're doing so that the public can have information that we are accepting applications for a board of directors position," ECUD Board of Directors Member Margaret Burton said. "So this will give the people time to maybe get their applications in."
Burton also told NewsWest 9 that ECUD has postponed their officer elections to allow time for applications to come in.
