WASHINGTON — "Good Morning America" host Michael Strahan's ongoing absence from the morning show will continue at least through this week, according to ABC.
"Michael Strahan will not be with us this week as he is dealing with some personal family matters," ABC said in a statement Tuesday to PEOPLE and USA Today. "We appreciate everyone’s thoughts and concerns."
The former NFL star has been off the air for nearly two weeks without much explanation. His last appearance on "GMA" was on Oct. 26. "Nightline" co-anchor Juju Chang and "World News Tonight" host Linsey Davis have been filling in for Strahan during his absence.
The 51-year-old host has also been missing the past two weeks from his usual spot as an analyst on "Fox NFL Sunday." Fox Sports commentator Curt Menefee noted Strahan's absence on Sunday and echoed that he was "dealing with a personal matter," according to the Los Angeles Times.
Strahan has been tightlipped about the personal matter so far and has not publicly disclosed details about his absence. It is unclear when he'll return to his hosting duties at "GMA" or on Fox.
The former professional football player has been a full-time staple of the ABC morning news show since 2016 after he left "Live with Kelly and Michael."
Strahan, who played for 15 years in the National Football League with the New York Giants, is a father to four children. He shares two adult children, Tanya and Michael Jr., with his first wife Wanda Hutchins. His 19-year-old twins Isabella and Sophia are from his second marriage with Jean Muggli.
