Halliburton Company, the second largest oil and gas service company, said Friday that they were cyber attacked on Wednesday, according to a Department of Energy report.
The report states that the company was made aware that an unauthorized third party gained access to certain systems.
When Halliburton was made aware of the issue, they activated a cybersecurity response plan and launched an investigation. According to the report, the company is getting support from external advisors to assess and remediate the unauthorized activity.
Halliburton says their response efforts include taking specific systems offline and notifying law enforcement.
The report also says the company's ongoing investigation and response include restoration of its systems and assessing material.
Halliburton is communicating with its customers and stakeholders.
