MIDLAND, Texas — On Tuesday night, the citizens of Midland elected John Burkholder as a new Midland City Council member at-large and reelected Robin Poole for Midland City Council member at-large.

There were two positions available for the at-large seat. Burkholder will replace Eric Davidson and Poole will keep her seat.

Burkholder and Poole defeated fellow candidates Davidson and Rance C. Norton following the Nov. 5 election.

Burkholder led with 32.36% of votes, while Poole followed shortly behind with 28.52% votes.

"There is a lot of work that needs to be done here in Midland we have a lot of things we need to move forward on, and I look forward to getting in and getting acclimated to this position as quick as possible so we can start making things happen," Burkholder said in an interview with NewsWest 9 Tuesday night.

NewsWest 9 spoke with Robin Poole prior to the Nov. 5 election in an interview.

When asked what her continued focus would be if reelected, she said, "I would of course love to see continued improvements at the airport, I think that the growth that we are seeing, we had over 700,000 passengers which was a record for us, $8.2 million in parking revenue. I mean people are wanting to travel in and out of this community. Making expansions as far as TSA checkpoints, which is in the works, to a possible new gate or parking garage, these are all amenities that travelers and residents in Midland want."

The two will officially start their duties in the city council after they are sworn into office Jan. 13, 2025.
