MIDLAND, Texas — Matt Friez, a doctor in Midland, has filed to run for a position on the Midland Independent School District school board for District 4, according to a press release.
Below is the press release that was sent to NewsWest 9:
"Citing abysmal student outcomes, a failure to support teachers, and lacking fiscal accountability, Dr. Matt Friez, Midland parent and president of Midland Pathologists, has officially filed to run for a position on the Midland ISD school board.
'The current Midland ISD Board has failed to provide our children with an excellent, or even adequate, education,' said Friez. 'Our children should be challenged and inspired at school every day, yet we are seeing largely the opposite. As the newest member of the MISD board, I will evaluate and diagnose the problem, and begin implementing solutions.'
Dr. Friez’s priorities include improving student outcomes, supporting teachers, and ensuring fiscal accountability and transparency.
'Students should receive an excellent education at all levels and be encouraged to meet high standards,' continued Dr. Friez. 'Our teachers should be provided with the resources they need to help our children reach these goals, and our board must be responsible with taxpayer money. This should be standard practice, and I look forward to sharing this vision with Midland parents and voters.'
Dr. Friez attended Baylor University and UT Houston Health Service Center. He is a loving father and husband to his wife, Tara, a part-time teacher’s aid and substitute. Friez’s involvement in the community includes coaching Upward Basketball and little league baseball and serving as a Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Midland and Midland Bible Church. Additionally, the Friezes host and adopt orphans from war-torn countries.
The Midland ISD Board of Trustees election is November 5th, with early voting October 21st through November 1st." - Tammy Bess, CAZ Consulting Corporation
