MIDLAND, Texas — Midland City Council has officially announced a special election to fill the seat of late City Councilman Dan Corrales.
This was signed into effect by Midland Mayor Lori Blong immediately after it was passed.
The council explained that they had 90 days after Corrales' death to announce the special election.
MCC says because of the 90-day rule they had to move quickly to make the announcement.
"I know a lot of people feel like this is kind of early for us to be moving on from such a tragic event, but we are required by law to move forward and have a special election and have someone come in," City Councilman John Norman said.
People can apply for the at-large seat right now.
The application period ends March 4 and the special election will be on May 4.
If you get the position, you will be serving the rest of Corrales' term.
