MIDLAND, Texas — The joint primary election is coming up on March 5, but the Midland County Elections Office is saying they need help.
The office says their population of elections workers is growing older and many have had to quit working because of reasons like health, age or simply moving out of the county.
"Well, if we don't have enough workers, you're likely to wait in line a little bit longer," Midland County Elections Administrator Rosa Olgin said. "We do like to make sure...we don't have to walk every voter to a machine to help them vote, but those that do need assistance we want to make sure that we can provide them assistance without leaving a backlog of waiting in line."
Other things that could be affected include things like helping voters who might not speak English.
"We do try to have a bilingual poll worker at every polling location," Olgin said. "Sometimes we can't always do that, so that could slow things down because they'll have to call the office if they're in another building, another business building they have to find somebody else that can translate for them. So, we try to manage all that beforehand."
Olgin added that even if they don't have the ideal amount of people by election day, they still plan on doing everything they can to make sure everything runs as smooth as possible.
We reached out to the Ector County Elections Office as well and they said they're also needing more poll workers for the upcoming March elections.
