SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The Department of Justice awarded $172 million in grant funds to agencies across the Western District of Texas, according to an United States Department of Justice press release.
These grants will aid in strengthening existing priorities that will be beneficial to the general public. These include mental health response, training of law enforcement, improving forensic processing and supporting victims in small town crimes.
The recipients included in these grants are the Texas Office of the Govenor, the Attorney General of Texas, Texas State University, The Texas Department of Public Safety and numerous other agencies across Texas.
"The Justice Department’s OJP grants program is a testament to our federal government’s commitment to enhancing the safety, well-being and security of communities across the Western District of Texas,” said U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza.
These grants were courtesy of the Office of Justice Programs.
According to the release, The Office of Justice provides many crucial resources including leadership, grants, training and technological assistance. With this program's existence, it hopes that crime will be reduced and possibly prevented.
