ODESSA - Prosecutors had their turn.

On Wednesday, the defense team takes their shot at keeping a convicted killer from Odessa off death row.

On Tuesday, the state rested their case against Michael Dean Gonzales.

The jury heard testimony from law enforcement officials about the man nicknamed "Spider."

He was convicted in 1995 for killing his elderly neighbors Manuel and Merced Aguirre and sentenced to death.

That ruling was overturned after testimony from a state expert was thrown out.

The jury also heard testimony involving the stabbing death of a fellow death row inmate in 1998.

Gonzales was the only suspect in that case.
