Texas Rangers Investigate Former Kermit Police Officer

Folks around Kermit aren't saying much, mainly because they don't know much about what happened.  The Kermit Police Department isn't saying much either, but that's because it's an ongoing investigation.  Details are limited but here's what we do know.

KERMIT--Folks around Kermit aren't saying much, mainly because they don't know much about what happened.  The Kermit Police Department isn't saying much either, but that's because it's an ongoing investigation.  Details are limited but here's what we do know.

According to Police Chief Scott Williams, Cpl. James Slayton resigned his position with the department earlier this week.

Slayton's resignation comes after the Texas Rangers opened an investigation on him for official misconduct.

Chief Williams could not comment on the details of the investigation, but he did say, Slayton was placed on administrative leave from the department after Rangers told him what was going on.

At this time, no charges have been filed against Slayton, who according to Chief Williams, voluntarily submitted his resignation after being placed on administrative leave.

Texas Rangers have not answered our request for comment.
