ANDREWS COUNTY – Federal Aviation Administration officials are investigating after a plane crash around 1 a.m. Thursday morning in Andrews County.
DPS Troopers tell NewsWest 9, the single engine Beechcraft Bonanza was flying southbound approaching the Andrews County Airport.
According to a report released to NewsWest 9, as the aircraft was attempting to land, it began to accumulate ice buildup on the leading edges of the wings and tail causing the pilot to lose control of the aircraft as he was decreasing power in an attempt to land.
That caused the pilot to crash land in a pasture area just off the north side of the airfield.
Four people were inside of the plane and all sustained non-life threatening injuries. Those injured include the pilot, 42-year-old Thomas Henley of Andrews and a front seat passenger, 61-year-old Melinda Young. Both appeared to have head injuries and were taken to Permian Regional Medical Center. Two other passengers in the back of the plane, 40-year-old Julie Good and 39-year-old Sara Henley were also taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
