Coahoma Softball's Mia Clemmer commits to University of Texas at Austin, a dream come true

Eight years ago, the two-time state champion wrote in a notebook that she wanted to play softball for the Longhorns.

COAHOMA, Texas — The Coahoma softball program is turning heads, especially for college recruiters.

The 2024 state championship squad has two future Longhorns on it, making the Coahoma to the University of Texas pipeline stronger. Catcher Mia Clemmer was the latest to make her college decision, but she's known for a long time where her next home would be.

"It's very surreal. It honestly doesn't even feel real still," Clemmer said.

It's still sinking in for Bulldogette softball's Mia Clemmer. The junior committed to play college ball at the next level back in September.

It could've been written in the stars, but instead, it was written in a notebook eight years ago. The star catcher called her shot and that was only the beginning.

There was an added bonus to this dream realization. Clemmer is set to join her best friend, teammate and UT signee Hannah Wells in Austin in a few years.

"The week that I committed, even until I announced it, that's all we could talk about just how our dreams as little girls is just coming true," Clemmer said. "Again, it's surreal."

The dynamic Clemmer/Wells duo will look to continue well into the future, going to a program that reminds Clemmer of home.

"Coming from a small town, the family aspect was huge, especially with our high school program," Clemmer said. "We've grown together, so going off to a bigger school, I wanted that family aspect, and it's something that Texas does have."

That pillar may make the road easier in the future, and it has already paved the way.

"The feeling is just indescribable," Clemmer said. "All the hard work that I've put in for this, and that my family has put in for me. Everything we have put together as a group spent is paying off."
