ODESSA, Texas — The West Texas Desert Hawks and Odessa Family YMCA announced Monday that they have created a community partnership to enhance the NFL Flag Football experience for the youth in West Texas.
The Odessa Family YMCA is adding an indoor flag football season this summer for the youth sports programs, which are made possible by the Desert Hawks.
Youth athletes will play at the Ector County Coliseum indoor area where the Desert Hawks play during the summer time.
“We are excited about this joint partnership and venture with the Odessa Family YMCA," Desert Hawks Owner Zack Bugg said in a press release. "Along with our goal of being champions and representing West Texas on the field, we also aim to be champions off the field and be better for the community of West Texas. This also includes the core value of building a better future for West Texas by investing in the lives of the local youth throughout the area.”
The summer flag football will be a five-game season starting May 18, 2024 and will continue every Saturday until June 29, 2024.
The summer league will be a seven-on-seven format and the grade levels who play range from first grade to sixth grade.
“We are very excited about the opportunity to partner with the Desert Hawks,” Odessa Family YMCA CEO Crissy Medina said in a press release. “Last year, we began our partnership with NFL Flag that gave our flag football program a chance to elevate the level of play. We are taking another step forward with our partnership with the Desert Hawks to give our young athletes the ability to experience games on a professional Arena League Football field at the Ector County Coliseum.”
Registration for summer flag football begins Monday, Feb. 19, and ends on Wednesday, April 17. The registration fee for members is $95 and $105 for non-members.
Entry fee for adults will be $5. Athletes and other youth will be able to enter for free. The entry fee covers facilities costs, and that fee will also be discounted from the Desert Hawks game ticket cost for the evening game.
