West Texas FC Head Coach David Ormiston reflects on a championship season

Ormiston is only in his first year as head coach and helped guide West Texas FC to the Lone Star Conference Finals.

MIDLAND, Texas — West Texas FC has won the Lone Star Conference Final. They did it with a thrilling 4-1 victory over Denton Diablos FC at Astound Broadband Stadium and under first-year Head Coach David Ormiston.

It wasn't always good though, as the team endured a rough beginning.

However, once the team caught fire, they never looked back, sprinting all the way to the Lone Star Conference finals and hoisting the trophy.

"The results didn't quite go our way in the first few games, but the performance was still really good. We were just sloppy in little moments," Ormiston said. "So we always knew that we had the quality, and with the summer league, it's that teething process and as we saw in the first couple of games, so once we got those home games in front of our fans and guys were more familiar with each other, the results started to show."

Ormiston wasn't about to take all the credit for himself, however.

He thanked his team for coming onto the pitch and executing the game plan every game. He also thanked his staff around him for helping build a team that had the skills to bring home the gold.

"It's a team thing. Obviously the guys that are here are just top class and are just a really good group of lads. My assistants Scotty Murray, I couldn't do it without him, he's my right hand man," Ormiston said. "Frederik Klauson, who's in the back line also helps us off the field as well as behind the scenes. He's been a massive help. Also, our owners and our director of operations Melissa, but they say this is a team thing. So it feels really good to win together."

However, Ormiston said the most important group doesn't even have an official position on the field.

The fans - who came to Saturday's game with face paint, drums, noisemakers and chants - were key to keeping up the team's morale and helping them stay undefeated at home.

"You can be physically tired, mentally tired, but when you have the 12th man, as cliche as that sounds, the fans are the 12th man," Ormiston said. "It pushes you on. It's a large part as to why we are on this win streak at home."
