DALLAS — The Dallas Cowboys have activated four-time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook from the practice squad, according to multiple reports.
Cook signed with the Cowboys practice squad in late-August and is set to make his debut for Dallas on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero.
"Cook has been tearing it up in practice and now he’ll get his first game action in prime time," Pelissero posted on X.
A season-ending knee injury for tight end John Stephens in practice this past week opened the door for Cook to come off the practice squad.
Dallas is in dire need of a spark to its running game that ranks dead last in the NFL in total rushing yards (463), yards per carry (3.5) and rushing touchdowns (2). WFAA's Joe Trahan addressed the lack of a rushing attack in his five things to watch for in the Cowboys-49ers primetime matchup.
Rico Dowdle leads the team with 246 yards on 59 carries, but has zero touchdowns. Ezekiel Elliott has 115 yards for the season on 38 carries and only has one rushing touchdown.
Cook has 6,207 yards in seven seasons but has also been a receiving threat with 1,872 career yards. The 29-year-old had 1,918 scrimmage yards in 2020, with 1,557 rushing.
The Cowboys kick off against the 49ers at 7:20 p.m. CT on Sunday Night Football.
