THE COLONY, Texas — Michael Irvin's new sports bar and restaurant is officially open in North Texas.
Playmakers88 is having a grand opening event Friday and Saturday, but the restaurant is open at 6 p.m. daily, and Irvin posted about an apparent soft opening last month. Playmakers88 is located in The Colony at 5005 State Highway 121, near Main Street and across the highway from the Grandscape development, according to a press release.
This weekend's grand opening events will feature live music, stand-up comedy and a celebratory blue carpet on Friday night, from 5 p.m. to midnight. Then, on Saturday, a family-friendly event of giveaways, autographs and photo opportunities will be held 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Playmakers88's kitchen will be led by Chef Rassuan "RJ" Johnson, whose menu will feature dishes from sports bar staples, such as chicken wings and burgers, to southern and seafood meals, including crab cakes. The restaurant will also have a cocktail menu and more than 20 beers on tap.
The restaurant also features pictures of the Cowboys' "Ring of Honor" members, including Irvin, on the rafters surrounding the bar area.
“I am truly honored to create an upscale sports bar and restaurant where sports fans can cheer on their favorite teams and athletes while enjoying great food, cocktails, and company,” Irvin said in the release.
The restaurant plans to donate a percentage of proceeds this weekend to the Alzheimer's Association Greater Dallas. The cause hits home for Irvin, who last month announced that his wife, Sandy, has been battling early-onset Alzheimer's for the last several years. Irvin made the announcement during a Dallas Mavericks watch party at Playmakers88.
