MIDLAND, Texas — Carver High School was a melting pot of talent in Midland back in the 1950's and 60's. The school won state titles in basketball, football, track and even tennis. These were the first state championships to ever come to Midland.
Despite the success, the school district still decided to shut the school down for integration. So kids either went to Midland Lee or Midland High. That caused the strong black community in Midland to fade away.
