MIDLAND, Texas — Starting Thursday evening until Friday morning, people across the globe experienced what's being called the "Blue Screen of Death'" (BSOD).
One Odessa citizen, Maigen Pool, said she was sure it is a scary thing for everyone, not knowing how things will be for the next day or even weeks.
The source of all this chaos?
Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike issued a faulty update that grounded flights and impacted banks and businesses worldwide.
CrowdStrike is one of the largest cybersecurity companies in the world based right here in Texas.
In West Texas, the Midland International Air & Space Port told Newswest 9 that "Airline fights have been arriving and departing; however, there are multiple delays from the outage, and it would be advisable for passengers to check with their airline for flight statuses."
American, Delta and United Airlines were the primary airlines affected during the outage.
On the administrative side of things, Texas Department of Public Safety announced its offices would be closed across the state due to technical issues.
This news came as a surprise to a few West Texans, including Ms. Pool.
“I was just hoping that my appointment wouldn’t be affected," she said.
Pool had an appointment to get her license renewed, but was met with a locked door Friday afternoon.
“I knew that it could be a possibility," Pool said. "But I just wanted to know, like if I was going to get lucky and it actually be open, but I was also OK if not.”
CrowdStrike and Microsoft have been working since the early morning hours to resolve the issue, but the problem for some users remain.
Below is CrowdStrikes's update to the public as of 2:54 p.m.:
In the meantime, all there is to do is wait.
“There’s nothing I can do, so I’m just going to go with the flow and come back on Monday and hopefully they’re open then," Pool said.
