5 planets visible in the night sky this week

Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Uranus will all be visible this week.

MIDLAND, Texas — A rare phenomenon is set to occur Monday and Tuesday evening.

Five planets should become visible over the western horizon, just after sundown. Those planets are Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Uranus.

Venus can be easily identified, as it will be the brightest object in the sky other than the moon. Jupiter and Mars should also be easy to view, but Mercury and Venus may be a more difficult.

All five planets can be seen from anywhere on Earth, including right here in west Texas.

The planets won't be in the sky for long though; the most visible time will be about 45 minutes after sundown.
