MIDLAND, TX (KWES) - The Midland Independent School District has named a new campus principal for a new school that has yet to be named.

Leslie Goodrum, the current principal at Rusk Elementary School, will be the new principal.

The new school will be located at the current site of Crockett Elementary.

As you may recall, Midland I.S.D. school board voted to close Crockett Elementary School and re-open the campus in August with a new campus with a new name, new administrators and new teaching staff.

We're told students will be enrolled at the campus from the Highway 349 corridor attendance area.

According to a release from Midland ISD, Goodrum is a Texas Tech graduate and holds a master's degree from the University of North Texas in Education Administration. She has 31 years of experience in education, and 15 years with Midland ISD. While at MISD she has worked as an elementary classroom teacher, administrative intern, assistant principal and campus administrator at Rusk Elementary for the last four years. She has seven total years of administrative experience.

"We are pleased that Leslie has accepted the challenge to lead this new school.  We want this new school to be special and Leslie has the initiative and innovative spirit to make it happen," Rod Schroder, MISD Superintendent, said in a press release. "She is a proven campus principal and her vision for the new campus will be critical to establishing a strong instructional culture at the campus."

We're told prior to coming to Midland ISD, Mrs. Goodrum has worked in Frenship ISD, Lubbock ISD, Carrolton-Farmers Branch ISD, and Tahoka ISD. Mrs. Goodrum is a member of First United Methodist Church and is very involved in the community.
