HOBBS, N.M. – New Mexico State Police have made an arrest in connection with an officer-involved shooting last month in Hobbs.
New Mexico State Police tell NewsWest 9, they have arrested 21-year-old Kyle Laghrin on charges of aggravated assault upon a peace officer and negligent use of a deadly weapon.
As you may recall, Hobbs Police were called to the Diamond Lil's Bar in the 2600 of North Dal Paso on Saturday, January 17.
When officers arrived on the scene, Officer Royal Hopper witnessed 21-year-old Kyle Laghrin and 25-year-old Nathan Trujillo, wrestling over a rifle in the parking lot.
According to the report, the officer gave verbal commands for both men to drop the rifle.
The two men disregarded the officer's commands and during the struggle, the rifle was pointed at the officer.
That's when the officer fired his weapon and shot both men.
Both men were airlifted to University Medical Hospital in Lubbock where they were treated for their injuries and released.
