LEA COUNTY, N.M. — Two people are dead and another two are injured after a three-vehicle crash in Lea County.

According to a crash report by the New Mexico State Police, a pickup truck driven by Jesse Godfrey, 39, of Odessa was traveling west on NM Highway 12 at around 6:30 a.m. on September 78. The truck had three passengers inside it as well.

Police say for an unknown reason, the truck crossed over into oncoming traffic in the eastbound lane of the road and struck a CMV. After this, the truck was then struck by another truck driving eastbound.

Godfrey and one of his passengers, Aaron Moreno, 24, of Midland were pronounced dead the scene. The other occupants of the first truck sustained injuries, with one refusing treatment and the other being taken to a local hospital.

The driver of the CMV also sustained injuries and was taken to a Kermit hospital. The second truck's driver was uninjured.

Police say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the crash, and seatbelts were properly worn by all parties with the exception of Moreno.

No more information is available at this time and police say the crash is still under investigation.
