HOWARD COUNTY, Texas — The Howard County Volunteer Fire Department was fighting multiple wildfires in the area Tuesday afternoon.
At just before 5 p.m., there was one along I-20, east of Coahoma, and another on Highway 87, northwest of Big Spring.
According to the Texas A&M Forest Service, the one near HWY 87 is being referred to as the Mitchell Fire. At last update, it was at 95% contained at a size of 860 acres.
A Facebook post shared by HCVFD said the fire east of Coahoma was 60% contained at a size of 200 acres.
At this time there is no word on what caused the fires.
