BIG SPRING, Texas — The City of Big Spring Emergency Management Team is asking the public to shelter in place.

City officials have been in communication with crews who are working to restore electricity to those currently without power.

According to the Oncor outage map, there are over 5,000 people currently without power.

As a result, the management team is asking people to stay where they are and bundle up with layers of clothing and blankets.

Citizens are asked to not call 911 unless they have a true emergency, as first responders are currently stretched thin and are working to respond to calls as fast as they can.

The Big Spring Emergency Management Team also says they can no longer ensure a hotel room as of Sunday night.  Local hotels are full and are also dealing with the same power outages that the rest of the city is experiencing.
