Rankin County Hospital opens its doors during winter storm

The hospital is the only place that has had power since Monday.

RANKIN, Texas — Smaller communities have been hit extremely hard during the Texas winter storm: The entire city of Rankin lost power on Monday.

The only place without power and running water happened to be the hospital.

Rankin County Hospital opened their doors to give people a warm place to stay until the lights turned back on.

At one point EMS and hospital staff, the mayor and deputies went door to door to check on people and take them to the hospital.

They've also been cooking all three meals for people, with other people dropping off items to help make it happen.

"It's just been really awesome for Rankin. It's great to see how a town can come together and get through it. We're just almost through this one," said James Horton, the CEO of Rankin County Hospital.

Officials say the hospital has fed 125 people every meal for the past four days and have used available hospital rooms for shelter.
