Skywarn Meeting takes place in Big Spring on April 12

NewsWest 9 Meteorologist Dan Grigsby was in attendance for the Skywarn Meeting in Big Spring.

BIG SPRING, Texas — In Big Spring on Friday night, Skywarn held a training to teach the public how to spot storms for the National Weather Service.

These meeting are a good way for everyday people and weather to work together.

By attending, people can learn more about the weather in West Texas and how to stay safe when it turns severe.

People can also learn how to properly send weather photographs that can help verify things like hail size and snow amounts.

"The Skywarn Meetings are essentially where we, the National Weather Service, get out in the community and just talk about weather safety," said Dave Munyan, metorologist at the National Weather Service. "We could talk about weather threats we could see out here but more importantly, what you need to do to keep yourself safe. So we like to get out there and generate community awareness and how to keep themselves safe from it."

If you missed Friday's meeting, Skywarn will be holding another one in Odessa on Tuesday, April 16, at Odessa Fire and Rescue Station 6 at 6 p.m.
